What Causes Neck Pain?

Your neck (cervical spine) is a complex system of vertebrae, discs, and nerves that supports your head while allowing for a wide range of motion. Neck pain often occurs when the shock-absorbing discs between the vertebrae become damaged due to age ("wear and tear") or injury.

When a disc herniates or degenerates, the inner gel can leak out or the disc height can collapse. This puts pressure on the sensitive nerve roots nearby. This pressure can send pain, numbness, or weakness traveling down into your shoulders, arms, and hands.

Do You Recognize These Symptoms?

Neck pain symptoms can range from a dull ache to sharp electric-shock sensations. If you are experiencing these consistently, a consultation is recommended.

Stiff Neck

Difficulty turning your head side-to-side or looking up and down without soreness or "locking up."

Shooting Arm Pain

Sharp or burning pain that travels from the neck down into the shoulder, arm, or even the hand.

Tingling Fingers

A "pins and needles" sensation or numbness in your fingers or hand, often worsened by certain neck movements.

Frequent Headaches

Pain that starts at the base of the skull and radiates up into the back of the head or behind the eyes.

Weak Grip

Noticing that you are dropping objects more often or having trouble with tasks like buttoning a shirt.

Shoulder Blade Pain

A deep, nagging ache that settles in between your shoulder blades or the upper back area.

Request a consultation if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.

Dr. Sumit Das’s Evaluation & Treatment

Dr. Das combines 25+ years of neurosurgical expertise with advanced diagnostics to identify the root cause of your neck pain.

Physical Examination

Our evaluation begins with a comprehensive exam of your cervical spine, testing arm strength, reflexes, and range of motion to see how nerves are affecting your function.

Advanced MRI Imaging

We utilize high-resolution MRI imaging to visualize the soft tissues of the neck, pinpointing disc herniations or bone spurs that are compressing your nerves.

Our Conservative-First Philosophy

Neck surgery is rarely the first step. Dr. Das prioritizes non-invasive treatments to reduce inflammation and relieve pressure, helping your body heal naturally before considering surgical intervention.

Physical Therapy & Traction

Customized neck exercises and cervical traction techniques to improve posture, offload pressure from discs, and strengthen stabilizing muscles.

On-Site Injections

Cervical epidural steroid injections or nerve blocks, performed on-site, can provide immediate, targeted relief for severe inflammation and nerve pain.

Medication Management

We utilize a strategic combination of anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants to manage acute spasms and pain, allowing you to participate in therapy.

Surgical Intervention

If conservative care fails, Dr. Das offers advanced solutions like Cervical Disc Replacement or ACDF to permanently remove pressure from the spinal cord.

Successful Relief from Neck Pain

Restful Sleep: No more waking up with a stiff neck or struggling to find a comfortable pillow position.

Pain-Free Driving & Working: Ability to check your blind spot or work at a computer without sharp pain or tension headaches.

Restored Sensation: Numbness and tingling in the fingers subside, and grip strength returns to normal.
